How will a sports massage help me?
Sports Massage treatments treat a variety of muscular skeletal conditions.
The main purpose of a sports massage is to:
Relieve muscular tension
Help mobilise soft tissues
Help break down adhesions
Do I have to have an injury consultation before any treatment?
This all depends on the treatment you have booked.
This does not require a separate assessment, as this will be performed at the beginning of each session.

An assessment is required before any treatment can be administered.
We will develop a tailored treatment plan, give an idea of how many sessions you will require to recover from your injury

What can I expect from an injury consultation?
By running through our 3 step assessment plan, this 45 min appointment will give us a clear picture of any recent or past injury and determine the best treatment package for you. We will assess your range of movement and mobility using the most up to date assessment tools and techniques and provide you with a clear treatment pathway.
How will I feel after my sports massage?
Generally, a sports massage aims to reduce any muscle tension, muscular pain or discomfort you are experiencing. A sports massage aims to increase your range of movement and decrease muscle stiffness and soreness. It helps reduce recovery time, aids sleep quantity and quality.
During a sports massage toxins from within the muscles will release, this could lead you to feeling a little bit sore following your 1st treatment. This feeling could last a couple of days. The feeling of soreness should reduce as you have more treatments.
What do I wear for a sports massage?
Typically, a massage therapist will ask you to undress to your level of comfort. You will be covered over with a sheet for the areas not being worked on. It is recommended that you wear shorts for a sports massage if you are having treatment on your legs. For back, neck and shoulder treatments the therapist will need direct contact with the area. There is a space for you to change your clothes before and after if needed.
How many treatments will I need?
Treatments will vary depending on conditions you present and treatment you have chosen. An initial consultation will help determine the best line of treatment for you.
For Massage treatment we recommend a minimum of 3 sessions, this will allow the body to make adaptation to our treatments.
For Injury rehabilitation we recommend a minimum of 6 or 10 sessions.
6 is the minimum number of sessions to allow physiological adaptation to take place in the body.
10 sessions allows us to cement those physiological adaptation into the body and reduce the risk of a repeat breakdown.
I don’t have an injury but I’m interested in improving my sporting performance, can massage help this?
Yes, massage treatment help remove residual waste produces from the muscles and replenish them with fresh blood which in turn helps the muscles recover and perform better.
How often do I need to have a sports massage?
This depends on your activity levels. We have clients that have treatments once a week to only coming in when they feel they need one.
Our recommendation would be once every 4-6 weeks as a proactive treatment to reduce the risk of injury occurring.
What if I just need advice?
New and existing clients can make use of our unlimited, free telephone support to with an experienced therapist.
How long should I arrive before my appointment?
Please aim to arrive 5 mins before your appointment to avoid a late arrival. There will not be time to extend your appointment if we start late. A member of our team will meet you at the front of the club house upon your first appointment.
Where can I park?
Based at Leverstock Green Football Club, MJ’s Massage and Injury Clinic is provides free onsite parking to all clients.
What if I’m running late?
We know that sometimes plans don’t go accordingly. If you are running late then please call through to us and just let us know. Please be aware though that appointments will not be able to be extended in late circumstances.
What if I have to cancel?
We appreciate that plans change and unexpected things crop up when we least expect it. We operate on a strict 24 hour cancellation policy. This is due to high level of demand we have within the clinic. If you do need to cancel within the 24 hours then please call us.
Charge for Late Cancellations and No Show’s
Failure to give 24 hour advance cancellation or being a “No Show” will result in a non-refundable administrative charge of the full cost of treatment. This applies to verbally booked appointments as well as those booked online.
